From its early beginnings to the milestone 20th competition taking place from 21–27 February 2026, the Two Oceans Marlin Tournament has become one of the defining events on the Struisbaai calendar. What started as an ambitious vision has grown into a tournament woven into the identity of our coastline.

How It All Began
Every legacy starts with a first step. The early years of the tournament laid the foundation for what would become a nationally recognised event. Passionate anglers, determined organisers, and a committed local community turned an idea into reality.
During those formative years, Chas Everitt Cape Agulhas (formerly Realty1 Cape Agulhas), under the leadership of Strepies van Wyk, played an important role in supporting and promoting the tournament. That early backing helped anchor the event within the local business community and strengthened its credibility.
The Legends Who Shaped the Tournament
Over the years, certain names have become synonymous with the tournament’s history. Among them:
- Gawie Bruwer (Indigo) – present since the beginning in 2007 and winner in 2009.
- Andrew van Zyl (Gwaza) – a dedicated participant in 18 tournaments.
- Rikus de Beer (Marco Polo) – another stalwart with 18 events behind him.
- Mike Broderick (Makaira/Bad Company) – 15 competitions and countless memories.
- Andrew Perrins – a constant presence and the familiar voice on the radio since day one.
These anglers represent commitment, consistency, and the spirit of competition that defines the Two Oceans Marlin Tournament.

The tournament is 100% catch and release with a strong emphasis on conservation, as the tournament's fishing grounds are right next to the recently declared Agulhas Marine Protected Area. Luckily all marlineers agree that watching one of these magnificent fish swim free is probably equally thrilling as bringing it alongside the boat to video it before unhooking.
