From Humble Beginnings to the Spotlight: The Inspiring Journey of Dancer Heurada

How Your Donations Can Send Heurada to Theatre School: The Over-Ed Initiative Explained

Passionate dancer Heurada, renowned for her raw talent, has secured a spot at the esteemed Waterfront Theatre School, sparking community celebrations. Heurada graduated from Bredasdorp High School in 2021 and became passionate about contributing more to the theatre. When Heurada had the chance to audition for the Waterfront Theatre School, she showcased her well-honed skills and potential. She successfully passed the audition at this esteemed institution.

Lindsay Moncrieff met Heurada in 2017 during her last year of primary school when Heurada joined the annual Pantomime of the Napier Amateur Dramatic Society (NADS). Despite being new, Heurada's raw talent was evident. Since then, she's developed a love for theatre and dance. (NADS brings together underprivileged children from Napier, Overberg to celebrate arts, aims to nurture local youth talent by providing stage performance opportunities.) Heurada quickly became an active participant, assisting in Pantomimes, choreographing, and teaching the children.

“Heurada has had no formal training and did not have the benefit of 5 high school years of dance and drama classes, like so many kids in the private school system. She got accepted at Waterfront Theatre School using her incredible talent. We are very proud of her.” – Lindsay Moncrieff

The Waterfront Theatre School is a premier institution for young and aspiring students who wish to build a career in the performing arts. Located in the Waterfront, Cape Town, their expertise lies in providing classes in drama and acting, musical theatre, and dance. Historically, even before the advent of #hashtags, the Waterfront Theatre School adopted the term 'Higher' as a motivational mantra for a generation of young artists. These artists have since gone on to occupy various performing and teaching roles worldwide.

Over-Ed is now spearheading a fundraising campaign to support Heurada's dream of joining the theatre school in 2024, offering tax certificates for any donations.

Lindsay Moncrieff, the leader of Over-Ed and this fundraiser, is seeking support to raise the R350,000 required for Heurada's first year of studies. This amount covers school fees, accommodation, and living expenses. Delia Sainsbury from the Waterfront Theatre School has also joined the effort to raise funds. Chas Everitt has pledged to donate R1,000 towards Heurada's future, and we are inviting you to contribute as well. If 350 benefactors donate R1,000 each, Heurada's dreams can become a reality.
